All of our classes constitute cognitive apprenticeships—teaching relationships in which the master of a skill shares knowledge with an apprentice. In the case of language learning, the coach is the master of the language skills. Language acquisition develops through direct communication in high-interest contexts that encourage students to observe, perform, and reinforce specific language functions.
